What to expect

Trail blazing, or following and leaving a trail, gives young adventurers a safe path to follow, it gives them confidence to explore, and it can turn a hike into a live action video game. This module was never intended to be one of the main parts of the Kids programs that we teach, but young adventurers simply love it.  Adults also tend to feel like it is one of the most useful parts of the program and it leads to a love of and lifelong relationship with the outdoors.  If you are having trouble getting your kiddos interested in the outdoors this is the class you do not want to miss.

The following is a sample of the common questions and topics covered:

  1. If you are hiking and a horse is coming down the trail who has the right of way?

  2. When should a child move from a known location?

  3. How far away should lightning be before you need to start worrying?

  4. What can you do to help search and rescue trackers find you?

  5. Do you have what it takes to track people? What is the proper way to walk up a hill?

  6. How do you buy the best fitting boots?

  7. If you are on a hike can you follow the ancient trail markers and medicine trails of our ancestors?

These questions and more will be answered in our most popular set of activities from the TSU Kids(link) program.

    Who is it for

Anyone ages 3 and up.  Children between 3 and 5 will need a bit of assistance on their first trail, but after that good luck keeping up.
