What to expect

What to carry, how to use it, and what to do if you lose it.  Carrying the right things can go a long way towards ensuring you have great memories in the outdoors, knowing how to replace the gear with skills take those memories and turns them into unforgettable moments. The motto of “Be prepared” has long been on the lips of adventurers.  This class is designed to help you take only what you need to help in being prepared, but it also is designed to prepare young adventurers minds to easily shift into MacGyver mode should they need to improvise something they do not have while on an adventure. The bag itself should put the minds of most adult adventurers at ease, but a bag of stuff is only a bag of stuff if you do not know how to use it.  We go over each and every item on the checklist we use to pak our own bags and apply the same principles we use in our full classes at some of the big survival schools we get to teach at.

In a nut shell this class covers:

  1. What to carry

  2. How to choose the best, least expensive and lightest gear.

  3. How to actually use everything you carry.

  4. What to do if you loose or forget something.

Who is it for

Anyone old enough to carry their own backpack, haversack, purse, fanny pack, or belt pouch.  The skills are taught to use the gear that is age appropriate for each student.  We may have a 12-year-old making fire to stay warm, but a different skill would be taught to a 4-year-old in the same class.  This module is just as valuable for adults as it is for little adventurers.  Every youngster is different, but currently my 4-year-old and all of his older siblings carry their own bag or kit depending on their size and skill level.
